ONE Fight Night 21: Regian Eersel Returns to Defend Kickboxing Title Against Alexis Nicolas
Kickboxing Superstar Regian Eersel Returns to Defend ONE Title
On April 5th, the main event of ONE Fight Night 21 will see the highly anticipated return of kickboxing superstar Regian Eersel. After a 23-month absence, Eersel will attempt to defend his ONE Kickboxing Lightweight world title for the fifth time, facing the undefeated Alexis Nicolas.
Eersel, once considered the best -77 KG kickboxer in the world, captured the belt with a decisive five-round decision victory over Dutch legend Nieky Holzken. He then went on to successfully defend the title against Holzken, Mustapha Haida, Islam Murtazaev, and Arian Sadiković. Eersel further solidified his dominance by also capturing and defending the ONE Lightweight Muay Thai championship, leaving no challengers remaining in kickboxing.
“Eersel has proven himself to be one of the most dominant champions in ONE Championship history,” said the organization’s president. “His return is highly anticipated, and we expect an exciting title fight against a rising star in Alexis Nicolas.”
Stepping up to the plate against the champion is Alexis Nicolas, a promotional newcomer widely regarded as the best Savate fighter to transition into kickboxing since Anissa Meksen. Nicolas earned his shot at the title with an impressive decision win over fellow prospect Magomed Magomedov just two months ago. Although initial reports suggested Bogdan Shumarov would be Eersel’s opponent, the Bulgarian was ultimately forced out of the contest, paving the way for the Frenchman to seize this opportunity early in his career.
With Nicolas having recently signed a two-year deal with the promotion, this title fight presents an exciting opportunity for the aspiring challenger to make a statement on the global stage. Aside from the main event, the event will also feature a submission grappling match between Tye Ruotolo and Izaak Michell.
