K-1 New York Event Faces Regulatory Hurdles: Kickboxing News
Kickboxing Fans Await K-1’s New York Event Amidst Regulatory Challenges
Kickboxing enthusiasts were eagerly anticipating K-1’s planned expansion into the New York market, but a recent development has cast doubt on the event’s future. According to a source involved in the planning, the proposed K-1 event in New York is now in jeopardy.
Initially, K-1 had targeted either May 19th or June 22nd as the dates for the event, which was set to take place at the prestigious Theater at Madison Square Garden. The plan was to uncover the next great American heavyweight kickboxing talent, with the winner of three grueling fights in a single night earning a spot in the prestigious K-1 World Grand Prix Final 8, scheduled for December 14 in Tokyo, Japan.
Whether K-1’s American expansion plans have been permanently derailed or merely postponed and potentially relocated to a state with more lax combat sports regulations remains to be seen. Kickboxing fans across the country will eagerly await updates on the status of this highly anticipated event.
Regulatory Challenges
However, a critical caveat has emerged – New York state legislation apparently prohibits multiple fights from taking place in a single night. This regulatory obstacle is a surprising development, as GLORY Kickboxing had previously held multiple one-night tournaments in the Big Apple as far back as 2013.
