Kickboxing Fans, Get Ready for the Light Heavyweight Grand Prix Showdown in 2024

Kickboxing enthusiasts, the wait is finally over! In a highly anticipated announcement, GLORY executive director Maurice Hols unveiled the roadmap for 2024, promising four one-night tournaments across various divisions. And the action is set to heat up even further as the Light Heavyweight Grand Prix takes center stage in June.

The Light Heavyweight division has been in a state of flux since the departure of former champion Artem Vakhitov, who was released from GLORY following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. With the title changing hands multiple times in the past two years, the stage is set for a new pound-for-pound contender to emerge.

Leading the charge is the former Light Heavyweight champion, Sergej Masloboyev. After a controversial stoppage in his last GLORY fight, Masloboyev has now reconciled with the organization and is ready to reclaim his rightful place as the best in the division. The 32-year-old Azeri fighter, Bahram Rajabzadeh, is another strong contender, having impressed with his dominant performances and a relentless pursuit of a tournament spot.

“I’ve been waiting for this moment for a long time. This is my chance to prove that I’m the true champion of the Light Heavyweight division.” – Sergej Masloboyev

Current Light Heavyweight champion Tarik Khbabez will also be vying for the title, looking to solidify his claim as the division’s top dog. However, he’ll face stiff competition from the likes of the young Romanian phenom, Ștefan Lătescu, and the experienced Donegi Abena, a former champion himself.

The Light Heavyweight Grand Prix promises to be a true showcase of the division’s elite, with each fighter bringing their own unique skills and experience to the table. Fans can expect a thrilling battle as they tune in to see who will emerge victorious and cement their status as the new pound-for-pound contender.

The draw for the upcoming tournament will take place this Friday, May 17, live from Amsterdam, Netherlands, and will be streamed on the official GLORY YouTube channel. Kickboxing enthusiasts, mark your calendars and get ready for an unforgettable event!
