Upset Victory at GLORY 91
In a thrilling main event at GLORY 91, held at the Dome De Paris, Chico Kwasi of Mike’s Gym pulled off a career-defining upset, dethroning the reigning Welterweight champion Endy Semeleer with a sensational second-round stoppage.
Semeleer, who had been undefeated for the past five years, came out strong, but Kwasi weathered the early storm. Halfway through the second round, Kwasi landed a spinning back fist after a missed push kick, dropping Semeleer. He then followed up with a hard right cross and a flurry of strikes, forcing the referee to step in and call a halt to the contest.
“Seven years ago, I watched Cédric Doumbe fight in Paris against Holzken,” an elated Kwasi said in his post-fight interview. “I told myself that I wanted to be like him and become a world champion. Today, that dream has become a reality.”
Shakeup in the Welterweight Division
The Welterweight division has seen a shakeup in recent weeks, as previously unbeaten ONE Championship titleholder Regian Eersel also lost his belt to French savateur Alexis Nicolas.
Highlights from the Main Card
In the co-main event, top Light Heavyweight contender Bahram Rajabzadeh knocked out the hometown favorite Kevin Oumar in the third round, earning himself a spot in the upcoming GLORY Light Heavyweight tournament in June.
The main card also featured standout performances from former Muay Thai stars Bobo Sacko and Youssef Boughanem, who both made successful GLORY debuts with stoppage victories.
