GLORY Kickboxing Crowns New Heavyweight Champion at Sold-Out GelreDome Event
On Saturday, March 9th, GLORY kickboxing returned to a packed GelreDome football stadium in Arnhem, the Netherlands, captivating a crowd of 20,000 enthusiastic fans. The evening featured an intense one-night Heavyweight tournament, as well as fierce battles for the Lightweight and Light Heavyweight titles.
In the main event, Rico Verhoeven emerged victorious as the new Heavyweight champion. Verhoeven, a fan favorite, navigated his way through a challenging bracket, first defeating Sofian Laïdouni in the quarterfinals, then dispatching the popular Moroccan Nabil Khachab in a lackluster performance in the semifinals. In the final, Verhoeven faced off against Levi Rigters, who put up a valiant effort despite being visibly hurt. Rigters almost managed to knock out Verhoeven with a flush spinning back fist, but ultimately fell short, solidifying Verhoeven’s reign as the new Heavyweight king.
“Rigters’ path to the final was no easy feat, as he had to overcome knockdowns in both his previous fights against Uku Jürjendal and Bahram Rajabzadeh. Despite the challenges, Rigters persevered, showcasing his resilience and determination to reach the final.”
The event also featured captivating battles for the Lightweight and Light Heavyweight titles, further thrilling the enthusiastic crowd in attendance.
